Does the Air Compressor Produce Waste Water?

The air compressor does produce waste water during operation, which is mainly caused by condensation of water in the air during compression and cooling.. The following is a systematic description of the causes and treatment measures of wastewater:

I. Causes of waste water

  1. Condensation of moisture in the air
    • The air itself contains a certain amount of water vapor, and its content depends on the ambient temperature and relative humidity. When the air is compressed, the volume decreases and the water vapor content per unit volume increases. As the temperature of the compression process increases, the saturated water vapor content of the air increases. However, when the compressed air is cooled to the ambient temperature, the saturated water vapor content decreases, and the excess water vapor condenses into liquid water, waste water is formed.
    • When compressed air is transported in the pipeline, due to the temperature difference with the environment, heat exchange will occur, resulting in temperature reduction. The decrease of temperature will also lead to the decrease of saturated water vapor content, thus generating condensed water and further increasing the amount of waste water.
  2. Influence of pressure changes
    • When compressed air passes through valves, orifices and other components, the pressure will decrease. The decrease of pressure will lead to the decrease of temperature, thus promoting the formation of condensed water.

II. Waste water treatment measures

  1. Install drainage device
    • Manual drainage valve: install manual drainage valve at the bottom of the air tank or pipeline of the air compressor to regularly discharge accumulated water. Operators should check and discharge condensed water every day, especially in humid environment or high load operation, and increase the discharge frequency to prevent waste water accumulation from causing corrosion to equipment or affecting the quality of compressed air.
    • Automatic drainer: use floating ball or electronic automatic drainer to automatically discharge water according to condensate level or set time. Automatic drainer can automatically sense the condensate water level and drain water in time, reducing manual operation and maintenance costs and improving drainage efficiency.
  2. Use drying equipment
    • Freezing dryer: By cooling the compressed air, the temperature is lowered below the dew point to condense the water vapor into liquid water and discharge it, thus reducing the moisture content in the compressed air.
    • Adsorption dryer: use sorbent (such as activated alumina, molecular sieve, etc.) to absorb moisture in compressed air to achieve the purpose of deep drying. This dryer is suitable for occasions with extremely high requirements on compressed air quality, which can effectively remove moisture from compressed air and improve air quality.
  3. Optimize pipeline design
    • Make sure that the compressed air bells line is inclined downward so that the condensed water can be discharged smoothly to avoid accumulation.
    • Drain outlets are set at key nodes (such as gas storage tanks, dryers and filters) to facilitate regular discharge of accumulated water and prevent waste water from causing corrosion to equipment or affecting the quality of compressed air.
  4. Enhanced filtering
    • A precision filter is installed at the output end of the air compressor to further remove moisture, oil and particulate matter in the compressed air to ensure the quality of the compressed air. Precision filter can effectively remove tiny particles and moisture in compressed air, improve air quality and meet production requirements.
  5. Environmental protection and compliance
    • Wastewater treatment should comply with local environmental protection regulations to ensure that the discharge is up to standard. Enterprises should establish a waste water treatment system, regularly monitor the discharge of waste water, and ensure that it meets the requirements of relevant laws and regulations.
    • Record the waste water treatment for tracing and review. The enterprise shall establish a waste water treatment Ledger, record the waste water discharge, treatment measures, discharge direction and other information to ensure that the waste water treatment process meets the requirements of environmental protection.

By taking the above measures, the waste water generated by the air compressor can be effectively treated, the stable operation of the equipment can be ensured, the quality of compressed air can be improved, and the environmental protection requirements can be met at the same time.
